SMITHBOYD Interiors was established in 2006 by founder and creative director Michel Smith Boyd. It has since evolved from a one-man operation to a boutique firm of eight, specializing in luxury residential and commercial projects nationwide. Featured in Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, and other publications, Boyd has starred in Bravo’s hit design series, Buying It Blind. He has licensed collections with Verde Home and Leftbank Art, and his paintings can be sourced globally at retailers including Z Gallerie and Neiman Marcus.

Design Tips
Back to the Basics
Boyd’s living room is chock-full of interesting design items, but each one is comprised of simple materials. For instance, the coffee tables are marble, while a striking totem pole lamp is made of glass and wood. “We know those things, right? But we’re seeing it done and put together in an interesting way," he says.
Dual Focal Points
A black-and-white artwork by Gustavo Nazareno commands attention over the fireplace, while an LG TV installed in front of the window wall is perhaps equally enticing. “The focal point of the room is tough to decide," Boyd says. “It depends on who you are."
Earthenware Hues
Boyd says he’s addicted to earthenware-inspired shades, which subtly weave throughout the space. “In a room that is mostly white, with views of the exterior that’re all green, I love the idea of having this color that represents Earth and grounds everything in the room," he explains.
